Chetola Resort Wedding in Blowing Rock

Loving newlywed couple look into each other's eyes on their wedding day, just after their wedding at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, NC. A heartfelt photo with golden light captured by Asheville based wedding photographer Scott S. Smtih of SSS Studio

From the moment I spoke with Katie about her wedding day, I knew we were in for an unforgettable experience! She and Steve radiated positivity and joy, making me feel truly privileged to be a part of their celebration.

The festivities began on a drizzly September afternoon at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. My team and I arrived early to explore the beautiful surroundings, fly the drone, and capture some fantastic initial footage for the wedding video—stay tuned for that! During the heartfelt rehearsal by the water, a favorite fishing spot of Katie's dad, Katie donned her mother's wedding dress, creating a beautiful connection to her past.

The following day overflowed with laughter, happy tears, and cherished memories from the 30 years Katie and her family have spent at this beloved place. It was profoundly special to hold the ceremony at the very spot where her father's ashes rest, symbolizing the unbreakable bond of family.

As guests eagerly awaited the ceremony, an unexpected shower broke out. I heard someone remark, “These are tears of joy from Katie's father in heaven,” which perfectly captured the sentiment. Everyone quickly found shelter in a nearby tent, and we pivoted to hold the ceremony there.

Amid brief moments of sunshine, we managed to capture stunning photographs of Katie and Steve, even amidst the rain. The evening was filled with joy as the newlyweds celebrated with their wonderful family and friends. It was a delight to capture every moment of this fun-filled night!

I don’t usually stand behind the groom during ceremonies, but due to the rain, the event was moved into a tent, and we had limited space. Then, I noticed an opportunity to capture something truly special. In this photo, Steve and his parents are looking toward Katie and her mom, who is carrying the ashes of her father, who passed away just three years ago. To make the moment even more meaningful, you can see the chair reserved in his memory at the edge of the photo.

The bride and groom wanted to take photos with their guests at the tables, and they thought a "photo dash" set to music would be fun. I will admit I was skeptical about whether we could capture photos of every guest within the duration of a song and a half, but we somehow managed to pull it off wonderfully, and the photos turned out to be so much fun! Here are a few examples...

Special thanks to DJ Kristi at Split Second Sound for making the photo dash possible! It wouldnt have happened with her hearding and encouranging guests!
